Electronic Music Production Certificate - Overview

The unique Electronic Music Production course provides an opportunity for music enthusiasts to unleash their passion for sound on the best music equipment, training with the international industry professionals. The programme encourages individualism and combines the fundamentals of electronic music production with practical experimentation and personal creativity. Students will graduate from the six-month programme with the skills and knowledge to create the music they love and gain a strong foundation for future learning.

Aims

Primarily, the course is designed to focus students' learning experience as much as possible on the practical use of computer sequencing, MIDI programming, making beats and hard disc recording. Students receive professional training focused on Apple Logic taught by a certified Apple Pro. SAE London is an Apple Authorised Training Centre and SAE works closely with Apple on an international level which ensures that students get the most appropriate and up-to-date training with this important production software.

Note: There are no academic requirements to participate in this programme. The only entry requirement is for the participant to be at least 16 years of age upon commencement of the course.

Electronic Music Production Certificate - Subject Overview

Arrangement/Production:

Students learn arrangement techniques for a wide range of electronic music styles. Emphasis is on beat programming, structure/composition, vocal comping and editing, as well as sound design & mastering fused together with creative use of FX.

Basic Audio Theory:

During the opening stages of the programme, students are given enough of an introduction to audio theory to demystify terminology and concepts which will be expanded upon later on in the course.

MIDI and Sampling:

Examines basic sampling theory but concentrates more on the practical aspects of industry-standard MIDI equipment, software and samplers. Although students have access to other packages, the majority of their sequencing work is carried out using Apple Logic. Lectures are delivered by an Apple Certified Pro for Logic and students have the opportunity to achieve an Apple certification. The use of these sort of techniques forms the core focus of the Electronic Music Production Certificate.

Studio Equipment:

This section covers rudimentary theory and the practical application of common studio equipment including simple analogue and digital mixers, effects and dynamic range processors, microphones and loudspeakers. Equipment specific to Electronic Music Production such as synthesizers, controllers and sound modules are taught in-depth in a custom, up to date computer based studio.
